2. corporate identity theory

corporate identity theory

the purpose of this essay is to tell you how people would identify my chosen channel which is E4 and what specific details make so you know this channel and what features help you identify this channel, for example A corporate identity is the overall image of a corporation or firm or business in the minds of diverse publics, such as customers and investors and employees. It is a primary task of thecorporate communications department to maintain and build this identity to accord with and facilitate the attainment of business objectives. It is usually visibly manifested by way of branding and the use of trademarks.
Corporate identity comes into being when there is a common ownership of an organizational philosophy that is manifest in a distinct corporate culture — the corporate personality. At its most profound, the public feel that they have ownership of the philosophy. Corporate identity helps organizations to answer questions like “who are we?” and “where are we going?” Corporate identity also allows consumers to denote their sense of belonging with particular human aggregates or groups. In general, this amounts to a corporate title, logo (logotype and/or logogram) and supporting devices commonly assembled within a set of guidelines. These guidelines govern how the identity is applied and confirm approved colour palettes, typefaces, page layouts and other such.

E4 uses idents (short promos between programs to create a sense of brand identity.
The idents, between 20 and 30 seconds long, transform a typically British scene - such as a barn, a beach hut or a hotel - into a "deranged E4 space" where the "weird and wonderful colorfully unfolds".
"We wanted something that reflected E4's personality - beautifully random, joyously daft and generally not taking things too seriously," said Neil Gorringe, the creative director of E4.
E4 is the entertainment destination for a cutting edge young audience, Its eccentric and witty personality and strong branding make it a massive talking point
It also won channel of the year at The Broadcast Awards in Feb 2011
. What we are for. E4 is one of the most original digital channels, sucessfully launching mega hits like Skins, The Inbetweeners and Misfits. With loads of Facebook appreciation groups, E4 is here to entertain. e4.com reaches 2m+ a month and has great brand opportunities.
E4 and E4 +1's Share of Commercial Impacts holds steady very strong for 16-34s. Furthermore within its competitive set E4 is the top converting channel for Adults 16-34, Women 16-34 and ABC1 16-34s.
Through research, we know that E4 viewers are predominantly young and upmarket, but theyre also fashion conscious, sociable, connected, heavy internet users, they love going out and tend to use advertising as one of their many information sources. They are also likely to be opinion formers and more likely to talk about brands and convince them to try them out. E4 is also recognized by the color of the logo, for example it uses a specific shade of purple so people can recognize it, it uses pantone 2613, as if they used a different shade of purple every time people would get confused.

E4 is funded by advertisement therefore will have alot of adverts in-between there shows, however they also advertise there own shows to increase publicity, E4 target an audience of 16 to 34 year olds therefore the shows they broadcast are aimed at a younger audience so the genre is most likely to be comedy, and shows that a younger generation would enjoy, for example, the 'inbetweeners' or 'The Big Bang Theory' these show are comedies which a younger audience can relate to, therefore most of the younger audience will watch E4 due to the programs they show.

Corporate behavior is the behaviour of an organisation when singled on its own. The behaviour of an organization is influenced by the arrangements for its ownership and control. When the owners appoint agents to manage the organisation, conflicts of interest arise which are studied as the principal–agent problem. corporate behavior within E4 is what they stand for, for example there shows do not contain offensive racism or sexual contact beyond a certain point, however there is a water shed where they are allowed to play some shows that can be explicit but if they play it after 8:30 it is allowed to a certain extent.

the conclusion is that, you would recognize E4 for the colors on the logo which is an E and a 4 together and when people see this shade of purple they associate it with the channel E4, people aged 16 to 34 would watch E4 and expect comedies and a bit of harsh humor for example sex references and abit of racism under the guide lines of corporate behaviour and not going over the limit, and when people watch E4 they expect to be entertained in a comedy way however there is a certain extent to where it is offensive so they have to stick to corporate behavior and keep there shows acceptable.
