14 developing technologies

digital television


digital TV is a way of receiving your television signal in a digital format. This allows TV companies to broadcast better quality sound, a higher definition picture and a wider range of channels than ever before. to use a digital television you have to subscribe to a broadband such as sky or virgin media. when you subscribe to a broadband you will then have to pay a monthly rate to be able to watch all the television channels.

analogue television

Analogue television is the analogue transmission that involves the broadcasting of encoded analogue audio and analogue video signal in which the information to be transmitted, the brightness and colors of the points in the image and the sound waves of the audio signal are represented by continuous variations of some aspect of the signal, its amplitude, frequency or phase. Analogue television is not around anymore due to the switch over of digital television.

satellite
 Satellite television is television programming delivered by the means of communications satellite and received by an outdoor antenna, usually a parabolic reflector generally referred to as a satellite dish, and as far as household usage is concerned, a satellite receiver either in the form of an external set-top box or a satellite tuner module built into a television set. Satellite television tuners are also available as a card or a USB peripheral to be attached to a personal computer. In many areas of the world satellite television provides a wide range of channels and services, often to areas that are not serviced by terrestrial or cable providers.

Interactive television
Interactive television (also known as ITV or iTV) is a form of media convergence, adding data services to traditional television technology. Throughout its history, these have included on-demand delivery of content, as well as new uses such as online shopping, banking, and so forth. Interactive TV is a concrete example of how new information technology can be integrated vertically (into established technologies and commercial structures) rather than laterally (creating new production opportunities outside of existing commercial structures.

On Demand 
On Demand is the brand-name of a range of services from BSkyB designed to compete with video on demand services currently offered by rival companies such as Virgin TV or BT Vision as well as internet television services such asLoveFilm and Netflix.
On Demand has been available in various forms including: a PC version using a peer-to-peer platform over broadband Internet connection, a version for users of 3G mobile telephones, a push video on demand service for subscribers equipped with a Sky+ HD set-top box or the PVR3 version of theSky+ set top box and a pull video-on-demand service.

pay per view
Pay-per-view (PPV) is a type of pay television service by which a subscriber of a television service provider can purchase events to view via private telecast. The broadcaster shows the event at the same time to everyone ordering it (as opposed to video-on-demand systems, which allow viewers to see recorded broadcasts at any time). Events can be purchased using an on-screen guide, an automated telephone system, or through a live customer service representative. Events often include feature filmssporting events and other entertainment programs.

Streaming
streaming content is an audio or video file on the Internet that is partially downloaded and then played as the remainder of the file is being downloaded. More specifically, live streaming is the method of constantly sending and receiving content over the Internet. The content is viewed live instead of being recorded for later playback. Streaming content or streaming media enables users to get immediate access and not have to wait until the file is done downloading. Often, if a user has a fast enough connection, the streaming content starts within a few seconds after clicking a link. Online radio stations and YouTube videos are both good examples of streaming content. Another example of streaming is Netflix, where you can stream films.

 HD
High-definition video is video of higher resolution and quality than standard-definition. While there is no standardized meaning for high-definition, generally any video image with more than 480 horizontal lines (North America) or 576 lines (Europe) is considered high-definition. 720 scan lines is generally the minimum even though many systems greatly exceed that. Images of standard resolution captured at rates faster than normal (60 frames/second North America, 50 fps Europe), by a high-speed camera may be considered high-definition in some contexts. High-definition television (HDTV) provides a resolution that is substantially higher than that of standard-definition television.

3D
3D television (3DTV) is television that conveys depth perception to the viewer by employing techniques such as stereoscopic display, multi-view display, 2D-plus-depth, or any other form of 3D display. Most modern 3D television sets use an active shutter 3D system or a polarized 3D system, and some are auto stereo scopic without the need of glasses.

A smart TV, sometimes referred to as connected TV or hybrid TV, it describes a trend of integration of the Internet and Web 2.0 features into television sets and set-top boxes, as well as the technological convergence between computers and television sets and set-top boxes. The devices have a higher focus on online interactive media, Internet TV, over-the-top content, as well as on-demand streaming media, and home networking access, with much less focus on the traditional broadcasting media that traditional television sets and set-top boxes offers. Similar to how the Internet, Web widgets, and software applications (in this context commonly just referred to as "apps") are integrated in modern smartphones, the name "smart TV" is akin to "smart phone", these are most usually installed on demand via an app store or app marketplace
